INTO THE WOODS RESIDENCY: A LOOK BACK AND WHAT'S NEXT

Into the Woods, my solo exhibition and atelier supported by the Miami Design District, offered a unique opportunity to connect with the Miami arts community and work on large-scale commissions. It was a joy to welcome local and international visitors into the studio, share the creative journey, and host engaging events. Here are the highlights and achievements we celebrated together.

OPENING RECEPTION KICKOFF & DESIGN DISTRICT’S PUBLIC ART TOURS

The residency kicked off with a vibrant opening reception, setting the stage for an exciting studio stay. The space was also featured in the Design District’s public art tours for the public to see and experience the work firsthand. Visitors engaged deeply with the experience and gained an intimate understanding of the artistic process.

FAIRCHILD GARDEN X JOYCE BILLET COLLABORATION

The residency exhibited part of the Woven project, a large-scale installation inviting orchids to attach to the sculptural artworks. This ongoing installation integrates living orchid flowers into sculptures, exploring the relationship between humans, nature, and art, sparking conversations about human impact on native life. The unveiling of the project was accompanied by a workshop with Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden’s Million Orchid Project. Participants learned orchid biology and took home micropropagated seedlings, deepening their connection to art and nature.

WOMEN IN ART & ARCHITECTURE TALK

As part of Women’s Month, I co-hosted an engaging panel discussion with interior designer Meghan Grehl. The talk was moderated by Neil Ramsay, “The Creative Economist,” and hosted in the atelier and exhibition space. The discussion highlighted the contributions and challenges faced by women in art and architecture, attracting an audience, including local media, in various fields and sparking meaningful conversations.
